Thankful for GARDENING

When I asked a friend what she might like to read about in my weekly newspaper column the week of Thanksgiving, she said, anything but one of those “Thanksgiving Thankful” write ups.

So I didn’t write about that for the newspaper. Instead, I’ll post it here on my blog!

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for...

I am thankful for:

Good health, for without it gardening would be a spectator sport and I like to be in the game.

All the food that I’ll eat tomorrow, because my older sister and her family do all the cooking, so I just have to show up and eat and then eat some more, and that will leave time to garden, weather permitting

Relatives, including my immediate family. They are smart, fun, and a joy to be around, even if some of them don't actually garden.

Dirt, or rather soil, the foundation of any garden, because I have some pretty good dirt in my garden.

Every season we have, even winter, because it does give us a chance to rest from the garden and plan for next year.

Never having had to go to bed hungry and having enough to share with others, especially from my own vegetable garden.

Iced green tea from Starbucks, so refreshing after a day in the garden.

New and continuing opportunities I’ve had this past year to have some of my writing published in Horticulture and a weekly newspaper column.

Garden blogging because of all I've learned from it and the people I’ve met through it; once just pixels on a screen, they are now real people, real gardeners, real friends.

  1. I'm glad you posted this here, Carol--I think it's good for all of us to voice what we are thankful for during this holiday. I am thankful for so many things, including this blogging community. I think of you as a good blogging friend, and I am thankful for all the information you've shared with us and all the smiles you've put on my face. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. I'm with you all the way in my thanks - except for the iced green tea. The garden has been a blessing for years, but I never knew when I began 2 years ago, what a blessing the blogging community would be. Watch for my blogoversary giveaway!

  3. It's been a good year for you and you have much to be thankful for, but then we all do, if we really think about it. I'm thankful that you're continuing to write such engaging posts.

  4. I don't know about the IGT, but I can add my Amen to the others on your list. And let me add I am thankful for the mild November weather.

  5. This is so nice, Carol. I might take the same word and just write synonyms for thankfulness with the first letter of each word. Great idea;-) Have a wonderful Thanksgiving--we all have lots to be grateful for!

  6. I am thankful that you choose to continue to write your blog. The blogging world would be dull without your clever, entertaining way of looking at the garden. Why a person can even learn things reading your blog. It, and you of course are a treasure. Happy Thanksgiving. Your rosebud is gorgeous too.

  7. I could just say Ditto to that. Happy Thanksgiving and I do hope it goes calmly for you. You have had a successful year in the garden and in the media. Bravo.

  8. I'm thankful for all those things ... even the veggies from my own garden cuz I still have Sungold tomatoes! You veggie growers may yet get me to plant more!

  9. What a great post. I am thankful for having the opportunity to read your blog!

  10. So appropriate on this holiday eve, Carol. Thank you for reminding us how thankful we are for all that gardening brings us, including all our blogger buddies like you. Have a great day.

  11. Thank goodness you decided to write this post! You said how we all feel and said it delightfully! Have a wonderful time with your family. gail

  12. Well said, Carol! Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. I'm thankful for Garden Blogger's Bloom day, and to you for hosting it!

    Enjoy the feast!

  14. Nicely said and done Carol. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all who blog here.

Comments are to a blog what flowers are to a garden. Sow your thoughts here and may all your comments multiply as blooms in your garden.

Though there is never enough time to respond to each comment individually these days, please know that I do read and love each one and will try to reciprocate on your blog.

By the way, if you are leaving a comment just so you can include a link to your business site, the garden fairies will find it and compost it!
