Carry your garden with you

You can't hold the scent of a garden in your hands, but you can carry it with you wherever you go.

It's almost like a riddle. What can you carry without holding it in your hands?

Your garden, of course. How it smells. How it looks. The pleasure it gives us. We carry it in our thoughts. We carry it in our hearts.

We carry it in our conversations with others.  Someone will ask an innocent  question like "how are you". And we'll respond we are fine and you should see my zinnias right now they are so tall.

We all carry so much with us each day. Unseen baggage of troubles and joy, thoughts and worries. Unspoken aches and pains. Happy memories and sad remembrances.

And some of us carry a lot of garden with us as well.  Knowledge of plants. Memories of floral and earthy scents. Plans for planting, hopes for harvesting.

We carry our gardens with us wherever we go, and happily so.  We are gardeners.

  1. Yep, you got that right. And just try stroking a lavender plant right before you go to work. I bet you will carry the scent of the garden with you, literally on your hand--at least for a little while.

  2. On this same subject, Leonard Nimoy's last tweet earlier this year was:

"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"

  3. What a lovely post! I need to find some local gardeners I can talk to..I don't really have any friends or family that are as into gardening as I am. LOL

  4. This is such a lovely thought! Just think, even in the middle of winter, I carry my garden with me in my heart. I can actually visit my garden any time I like, because all I have to do is frolic through my photo files!

  5. This is such an astute thought. Of course we carry our gardens with us but I had never thought about it like this. I wonder how many times I have answered someone like you described here. ha... so true. My pooor garden is crisping up around the edges. Come on fall rains. Where is a good hurricane when you need one?

  6. This is so true--I notice whenever I'm around friends that aren't that into gardening, somehow I steer the conversation around to gardens. And I dream about gardening!

Comments are to a blog what flowers are to a garden. Sow your thoughts here and may all your comments multiply as blooms in your garden.

Though there is never enough time to respond to each comment individually these days, please know that I do read and love each one and will try to reciprocate on your blog.

By the way, if you are leaving a comment just so you can include a link to your business site, the garden fairies will find it and compost it!
